abstract = "The objective of this work was to generate a land cover map
(forest, pasture, forest regeneration, native field and bare
soil), for the municipality of Bocaina de Minas/MG, using Landsat
ETM+, based on techniques of remote sensing and geographic
Informations System (GIS). The second objective was to delineate
the Permanent Preservation Areas (along rivers, around springs,
areas with inclination higher than 45° and altitude above 1800
meters) folowing the 1965 Federal Forest Law and subsequent
Decrees. It was identified the conflituous of the land use for the
municipality area, based on the maps of APPs and land use. A total
of 129,33 Km2 in APPs was found. From those, 53,77 % are correctly
occupied (forest and native field) and 46,23 % are not correctly
occupied (pasture, regenerating and exposed soil). The results
showed that the legislation has not been complianced and there is
a necessity of recomposing these areas with inadequate use. The
GIS tools are necessary and essential to realize this work.",
